3 Siblings lose their dad, mum to dengue

THREE siblings from Taman Delima Indah Apartment here became orphans after their parents succumbed to dengue fever last week.

Nor Hidayah Azlan, 23, said her parents, Azlan Md Din, 49, and Normah Amiruddin, 45, died at the Seberang Jaya Hospital on Jan 16 and Jan 17 respectively.

Her younger brother, Mohd Firdaus Azlan, 14, was treated at Penang Hospital, also for dengue fever, but has since been discharged.

“What happened is like a nightmare.

“However, we have accepted it, although life is going to be difficult for us three siblings as we are still studying,” Nor Hidayah said.

Nor Hidayah, who is the eldest, said her father complained of high fever and felt weak, and her mother complained of the same symptoms.

“My parents and brother were hospitalised, but the condition of my parents did not improve.”

Nor Hidayah, who studies at Kolej Poly-Tech Mara in Ipoh, said she rushed back when she learnt her parents’ worsening condition.

“I am grateful that my brother managed to pull through.

“Whatever it is, life has to go on and we will do our best to face the challenges with help from our relatives,” she said.

Meanwhile, the manager of the apartment’s management, Yahya Othman, said they were shocked when told about the death of their residents due to dengue fever.

“We continuously strive to keep the environment clean and our apartment was once voted as the best apartment.

“I hope this incident will serve as a wake-up call to every resident to keep their surroundings clean,” he added.
