Floods recede in Kelantan, evacuee numbers plunge by almost half

KOTA BARU: The flood situation in Kelantan improved slightly today with only Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang recording a water height reading above the danger level.

According to the state government's flood portal, Sungai Golok was measured at 9.91m, which is 0.91m above its danger level of 9m, as of noon today.

The portal also reports that the number of flood evacuees plunged by almost half today compared to yesterday.

As of noon, 4,440 people are still taking shelter at 34 flood relief centres in four districts.

Pasir Putih recorded the highest number of victims at 2,548, followed by Pasir Mas (1,326), Kota Baru (514), and Kuala Krai (52).

Yesterday, there were about 7,600 flood victims at six centres.

Meanwhile, rescue teams have yet to locate Mohd Aiman Che Hashim, 15, who disappeared while swimming at Kampung Pantai Nipah, Bachok, on Saturday.
