Chong Wei turns 'chef' and cooks lunch for Kelantan flood victims

KUALA LUMPUR: It turns out that Datuk Lee Chong Wei isn’t just handy on the badminton court..he’s also equally comfortable in the kitchen.

The ace shuttler had over the weekend accompanied 1Malaysia for Youth (iM4U) volunteers to aid to flood-hit areas in Kelantan to assist with relief efforts and spread some much-needed joy to the families.

Apart from helping distribute supplies, Chong Wei also helped cook and prepare lunch for the flood victims.

Chong Wei and the volunteers delivered items collected from the iM4U Flood Relief Donation Drive and the Stuff The Bus campaign - a collaboration with AEON Co (M) Bhd through AEON Cares project, to the families impacted by the flood.

“The flood situation here is getting worse, and the victims of the floods desperately need support from us.

“I hope that the help we have provided will ease the burden of those affected and I urge all Malaysians to support those that are in need,” said Chong Wei in a statement.

iM4U and Chong Wei had also dropped by the AEON Mall Kota Baru to shop for post-flood relief necessities, topping up the items already sponsored by AEON to the flood victims.

They then made their way to one of the relief centres at SK Kedia Tanjung, Pasir Mas, which housed 1,200 victims. There, Chong Wei cooked and prepared lunch for the families.

He also distributed the post-flood aid items to the less fortunate and those most affected.

iM4U chief executive officer Rudy Malik said the organisation is committed to extend a helping hand to families affected by the floods.

“We hope all the efforts placed in post-flood relief will help the victims regain their livelihood,” he said.

The iM4U Outreach team also provided tents as shelter for flood victims, as well as deploying volunteers to help, from preparing and serving hot meals, facilitating activities for the children in the centres to cleaning up public spaces within the communities.
