MACC opens graft, abuse of power probe into Annuar Musa

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) today confirmed it has opened an investigation paper with regards to suspended Mara chairman Tan Sri Annuar Musa.

In a statement today, the anti-graft agency said it will cooperate with Mara’s internal audit team in investigating several issues related to the alleged graft and abuse of power concerning Annuar.

“We would like to stress that MACC’s probe will only focus on graft and abuse of power issues, with regard to his involvement in the Kelantan football team sponsorship.

“Investigation on alleged mismanagement will be conducted by the Mara internal audit team.

“MACC would like to urge the public to not make any speculation on the investigation and give space to enable us to conduct our duty,” read the statement.

Earlier today, Mara board member Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob had announced Annuar’s suspension as chairman of both Mara and Pelaburan Mara Bhd (PMB), following an emergency meeting convened by the Mara council members.

It is believed that Annuar’s suspension was due to the sponsorship for the Kelantan football team from PMB and Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL).

In a press conference after the meeting, Yusof told reporters that Annuar will be summoned on February 7 along with several others regarding the claims.
