SHAH ALAM: An 11-year-old boy who claimed that he was kidnapped by masked men in Kuala Langat on Monday was found to have made up the story.
Kuala Langat police, which had launched an investigation following a report lodged by the boy's father yesterday, found out that the boy concocted a fib when he feared that he would be scolded for coming home late.
Selangor police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said the Standard Five student had admitted this to investigators when they were recording his statement yesterday.
"The boy was taken to the district police headquarters on Tuesday to facilitate investigation.
"During this, the boy had admitted that he made up the kidnapping story as he feared that his father would scold him for returning home late (on Monday evening).
"To avoid from being punished, the boy told his father that three masked men had tried to bundle him into a car, but he managed to escape after biting the hand of one of the abductors.
"With this, police are urging the public not to make any speculation as investigations had showed that this case did not involve any criminal elements," he said in a statement today.
A Malay daily in its online report yesterday quoted the boy's father, who is a teacher, saying that his son became a victim of an attempted kidnapping before the latter managed to escape and return home at 1.30am on Tuesday.
Selangor police chief Datuk Seri Abdul Samah Mat, in a press conference yesterday, said police were investigating the case, where they were also looking into the boy's story to find out if he had told the truth.
