Zaid Ibrahim officially joins the DAP

PETALING JAYA: Former law minister Datuk Zaid Ibrahim officially announced his entry to the DAP today.

The former Umno lawmaker expressed hope of staying with the DAP for a longer time than he did with Umno and PKR.

"I wish to announce that I have joined DAP. One of the reasons I wanted to join this party is (my) hope (that) more Malays would join DAP.

"I believe DAP will help save the country, and (help) us to achieve our aim of saving Malaysia," he said during a press conference at his home at Tropicana Golf & Country Resort, Selangor, here today.

Also present were former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang, former Umno minister Tan Sri Sanusi Junid, Parti Amanah Negara's Shah Alam MP Khalid Samad and several other opposition leaders.

In his speech during the event, Lim said that Zaid will be an asset to the DAP and will help the party in its struggle.

"People asked me if this time, Zaid will stay, and how long will he stay in DAP? I am sure that he will act as a team player and not a prima donna," said Lim.

Mahathir, meanwhile, said while it seems strange to see a former Umno leader jumping ship to the DAP, even stranger things are happening.

"I hope Zaid will stay in DAP for a while. It's not good to keep jumping like frogs. I hope all who decide to join the opposition will no longer be frogs," said the PBBM chairman.
