Kit Siang-Tun M's 'unholy alliance' has damaged DAP: Salleh Keruak

KUALA LUMPUR: The “unholy alliance” between DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang and PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has damaged the credibility and integrity of both the DAP and Pakatan Harapan.

Umno treasurer Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak said the partnership has led to dissatisfaction among members of both parties, as reflected by the resignations of four elected representatives from DAP in Malacca on Sunday.

“The resignations of the four DAP representatives from Malacca prove what many have known for some time – that the DAP grassroots leaders are not happy about Kit Siang ‘flirting’ with Tun Mahathir,” Salleh said in a statement.

He added that both Kit Siang and Tun Mahathir have placed their own political agendas above the people’s interests.

“The credibility and integrity of both DAP and Pakatan Harapan have suffered these last two years because of the unholy alliance between Tun Mahathir and Kit Siang. All the gains the opposition made in 2008 and 2013 will be lost in the next general election.

“No one doubts that both Tun Mahathir and Kit Siang are serving their personal political agendas (at the cost) of the interest of the voters. And the voters will show their unhappiness in the next election if this state of affairs continues,” he added.

Kota Melaka member of Parliament Sim Tong Him, Bachang assemblyman Lim Jak Wong, Kesidang assemblyman Chin Choon Seong and Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San announced their resignations from DAP yesterday with immediate effect.

Salleh also said PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail had expressed the sentiments of many Malays when she suggested that Tun Mahathir may not be adept at uniting the opposition after all.

“There are many more in DAP who feel the same way, but for the sake of the party, they do not want to rock the boat. There are also Malays who support Pakatan Harapan, but are unhappy with Tun Mahathir’s role in the opposition.

“What Dr Wan Azizah Ismail said yesterday (Saturday) expresses the sentiments of many Malays,” Salleh said.
