Woman among two suspected drug pushers nabbed in Langkawi

LANGKAWI: Police detained two suspected drug pushers, one of them a woman, in two separate arrests here early today.

Langkawi police chief Superintendent Dr Che Ghazali Che Awang said police also seized heroin, syabu and RM4,680 in cash from the suspects.

Ghazali said the woman, aged 31, was detained in a raid by the district Narcotics Department at a chalet in Pantai Chenang about 2.30am.

"Upon inspection, the raiding team found three small plastic bags containing heroin weighing 16.6 grams and a packet of cannabis weighing 0.5 grams in a bag belonging to the woman," he said when contacted.

Gazali said, in a follow-up raid about an hour later, the team detained a 45-year-old man at a house in Kampung Padang Puteh, Kedawang.

"The team seized 13 packets of heroin weighing 60 grams and eight packets of syabu weighing 15 grams," he said.

Both suspects have been remanded for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty if found guilty.
