Security at today's RUU355 gathering assured: KL Police Chief

KUALA LUMPUR: The police have given their assurance that security will be under control during the RUU355 gathering today.

Without revealing the number of personnel on duty during the gathering, Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Amar Singh Ishar Singh said police have made prior arrangements to ensure the gathering goes on without a hitch.

"Sufficient personnel have been assigned to ensure the best security during the gathering," he said.

Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur Traffic Chief ACP Mohd Nadzri Hussain said about 140 personnel are assigned to control traffic along the main roads to Padang Merbok during the gathering.

"(The traffic police) will be on duty in two shifts during the gathering," he said, adding that no road heading to Padang Merbok will be closed during the gathering.

On Wednesday, Pas was reported as saying that about 200,000 people are expected to take part in the gathering aimed at garnering support for the Bill on the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) 2016.

The Private Bill was tabled by Pas President Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in Parliament on Nov 24 to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) (Amendment) Act 1965 or Act 355, to increase the Syariah Court's powers in criminal offences. --BERNAMA
