Tg. Datu by-election: BN far ahead in early vote counting

LUNDU: Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Puan Sri Jamilah Anu's son has arrived at the Lundu Community Hall here for the official announcement of the Tanjong Datu state seat by-election result.

Azizul Annuar Adenan is representing his mother, who is still fulfilling her iddah (grieving period), following the demise of her husband and state seat incumbent, Tan Sri Adenan Satem, last month.

Earlier, State Reform Party (Star)'s candidate Johnny Aput arrived at the hall with party workers.

The voting process for the by-election officially closed at 5pm.

Unofficial results show that BN is leading the vote tally by a very wide margin, following the three-cornered contest.

Election Commission (EC) returning officer Hamsein Atar is expected to announce the official result at about 8pm.

During the state election last year, Adenan retained the seat when he polled 6,360 votes against PKR’s Jazolkipli Numan, who only obtained 468 votes.
