Be mindful of your children's activities and whereabouts, says Rosmah

PUTRAJAYA: Parents should be strict with their children's activities and constantly keep tabs on their whereabouts, says the Prime Minister's wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

Commenting on the Johor cycling tragedy on Saturday, which saw the death of eight teenagers, she said parents cannot be 'accepting' over everything their children want.

"We can be understanding on certain matters but not everything.

"Parents should be strict as they should know where, what time and with whom their children are going out. They should also make sure they come home," she told reporters after the pre-launch of a seminar titled 'Child Sexual Crime: Stop It', at the Seri Perdana Complex today.

Last Saturday, eight teenagers died, two were in critical condition while six others were injured as a result of a horrific accident at the Middle Ring Road, Johor Baru.

The group of cyclists, who were rammed by a car at 3am, were teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17. The teens were part of a large group of 30 to 40 who came from areas such as Plentong and Skudai to ride their modified bicycles.

Rosmah said the parents of the children involved in the accident should have been more aware and should have made sure their children were not out after midnight.

"I'm truly saddened by this incident and hope parents give more attention to their children," she said.
