TANJONG KARANG: Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin has given his wing a three-month deadline to finalise preparations to face the 14th general election (GE14).
Khairy said Umno Youth's readiness is important, as the general election could be called at any time and initiatives such as engaging with young voters must be heightened.
"A directive has been issued for us to kick-start preparations for (the general election) machineries because we are already in general election mode.
"I do not know when (the general election) will be called. It is up to him (party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak). In a political bureau meeting yesterday with the party president, we spoke about the election preparation to make sure that we are ready for it at any time.
"My deadline for Umno Youth is three months as I, too, need to be ready myself. I will start moving the Umno Youth machinery from now on. We need to reach out to the young voters as we have done continuously over the years.
"But this needs to be intensified, because all general election preparations must be finalised in these three months," said Khairy.
He was speaking after launching Himpunan Anak Muda Tanjong Karang, held at Padang Astaka here today.
The Tanjong Karang Umno Youth general election machinery was also officiated during the event, and Khairy has called for other divisions to also start their engines.
Among those present were Selangor Umno liaison committee chief and Tanjong Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar, Selangor Umno Youth chief Zainuri Zainal, and Sungai Burong assemblyman Datuk Shamsuddin Lias.
