Contractor latest to be hauled up over Johor real estate corruption scandal

JOHOR BARU: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) arrested a contractor today to assist in the investigation into the real estate corruption scandal in Johor.

The 46-year-old man was picked up at his house at 9.45am today.

He is the seventh suspect to be held in connection with the Johor real estate corruption scandal.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Datuk Azam Baki, when contacted, confirmed the arrest but declined to comment further.

Sources said that initial investigation showed the suspect was also involved in the scandal and that the MACC has seized various documents from him to help in the probe.

The suspect has remanded for seven days to facilitate the probe under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 which carries a maximum jail sentence of 20 years and a fine of RM10,000 or five times the amount of the bribery, whichever is higher.
