(Golf) BDB Masters Championships return with almost RM1 million in prizes

ALOR STAR: The Bina Darulaman Bhd (BDB) Masters Golf Championship is back with prizes amounting to RM900,000 – including a bungalow worth RM800,000 which awaits the first contestant to shoot a hole-in-one.

Now into its 16th year, the BDB Masters Championship will take place for three days beginning Dec 9 at the Darulaman Golf and Country Club (DGCC), Jitra.

BDB group managing director Datuk Izham Yusoff said that they have received overwhelming support from golf players throughout the country.

"(This) shows that the BDB Masters Championship is recognised not just by golf players here in Kedah, but also throughout the country," he said in a statement.

According to Izham, this year's championship features two categories, which are Nett and Gross, in line with the National Handicap System (NHS); and that a total of 60 players will be selected to compete on the final day of the championship.

He added that the 2016 round will also include a charity golf tournament involving 40 players on the last day of the championship.

Contributions for the charity tournament will be channelled to various associations in the state.

"As a start, a total of RM50,000 will be channelled to four charity associations: Asrama Orang Tua Tidak Berwaris, Pertubuhan Pembangunan Anak-anak Yatim Bekas Parajurit Malaysia Daerah Kulim, Persatuan Ibu Tunggal Pendang, andPersatuan Jalinan Kasih.

"The four charity associations were selected after a discussion with the state executive councillor Datuk Suraya Yaacob, who is also the Women, Development, Agriculture and Agro-based, Entrepreneur Development, Community Welfare Committee chairman," said Izham.

The two-storey bungalow prize, which is located in Bandar Darulaman, Jitra, is sponsored by BDB subsidiary company, BDB Land Sdn Bhd.

Two other main sponsors of the championship are BDB Infra Sdn Bhd and BDB Synergy Sdn Bhd.
