Upset over narrowed lanes

WORKS on another apartment in Jalan Dutamas Raya have left residents, mainly from Duta Ria Condominium and Anggun Puri Apartment, fuming as the construction has encroached onto the main road.

A Duta Ria resident, Maya, says the two lanes have become one and a half which has caused congestion, especially during peak hours.

“The lanes have become too narrow for two cars to pass.

“Now the workers are working on part of the lane they have encroached in. It looks like a pavement and we are worried that the narrowed lanes will be permanent,” she says.

Hakim, who lives in Anggun Puri, says residents of the two condominiums and parents of students at the French International School of Kuala Lumpur are badly affected as the road leads to their homes and school.

“The road becomes narrow as it reaches our home. Both condominiums have public parking space outside the gate.”

Maya says they have lodged reports with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall and complained to Segambut member of parliament Lim Lip Eng on the encroachment. They have yet to receive a reply from either party.

ACTIONLINE: City Hall Infrastructure Planning Department director Nurazizi Mokhtar says he has dispatched a team to monitor the construction work and finds everything is in order.

He said the construction activities are done in accordance with the earthworks, roads and drainage plan approved by City Hall.

“The contractor is working on a pedestrian walkway to be built on part of the main road as part of the requirement.

To compensate the takeover of part of the road, relevant stakeholders have decided to demolish the parking space outside Anggun Puri and Duta Ria.

“We have the right to demolish the parking space as it belongs to City Hall and is not solely for the use of apartment dwellers.”

Nurazizi assures residents that once construction is completed, the roads will be repaved, on top of that, they will even get a new walkway.
