(Actionline) Motorists can't wait for PJ bypass

A much anticipated bypass to the Sprint Highway from Rothman’s Junction in Petaling Jaya, built six months ago, is impassable as it is cordoned off by plastic barricades.

Edie Amin, 21, wants to know when the council would open the road, as taking the road from his work-place in Section 8 Petaling Jaya to his home in Kampung Kayu Ara would cut his travel time by half.

“This is very frustrating as the road looks ready to be used,” he said, adding that the traffic lights were also not operating.

The extension of Jalan Harapan had been anticipated for about six years since the Rothman’s roundabout was turned into a traffic-light junction in 2011.

ACTIONLINE:

Petaling Jaya City Council Engineering director Ismail Shafie said the contractors engaged by the council had been told to complete their work by the end of this month.

Ismail said the road was expected to be open to the public next month.

He said the contractor had yet to instal guard-rails, street lights and build a pavement.

Ismail called on motorists to be patient and adhere to road safety rules by abstaining from using the road.

The road is part of a larger traffic dispersal plan for Petaling Jaya.
