PUTRAJAYA: Ri Jong-chol, the North Korean citizen detained over a probe into the murder of Kim Jong-nam, will have to undergo thorough full immigration procedures before being deported tomorrow morning.
He will also wear a bulletproof vest over security concerns.
According to a source in the Immigration Department, Jong-chol, 47, will have his thumbprint taken and a Check-Out Memo (COM) issued prior to his deportation.
"We are observing international standard operating procedures for anyone who is being deported," the source told NST Online this evening.
The source also said that security would be heightened at the Immigration headquarters in view of Jong-chol’s arrival at the headquarters tomorrow.
He will also be made to wear a bulletproof vest for security reasons.
"Contrary to media reports, Jong-chol is not a chemist. But he's here on a valid working visa as a working professional,” said the source.
Jong-chol was detained on Feb 18 after investigators discovered that he had driven one of the four North Korean men, sought after in the high-profile murder.
He was arrested by the police at his condominium in Jalan Kuchai Lama.
His remand period expires tomorrow.
