Go Green Property Fair answers demand for greener homes

JOHOR BARU: There is a growing demand for environmental-friendly residential enclaves as homeowners embrace the idea of green living.

Kenlink Group Sdn Bhd, which is organising a three-day Go Green Property Fair at the Johor Baru City Square here beginning today, is expecting a turnout of 6,000 visitors over the next three days.

Its director Albert Chan said the event, held for the first time last year, drew an average of 2,000 visitors per day.

“We expect to achieve the same number of visitors this year as awareness on living in a green environment has grown and also the demand for such properties,” Chan told reporters after the launch.

“The green concept is a selling point for developers,” he added.

The fair features 18 participants, mainly property developers promoting 36 types of products. There was also a booth taken up by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to promote the ‘Release Sleeve’, an innovative solution for floor leakage woes.

Other developers included UEM Group Berhad and Sunway Iskandar.

Sunway Iskandar sales executive Benson Ong said property buyers now want a work-life balance and there have been numerous enquiries regarding housing areas that adopt the green concept.

Meanwhile, Johor Baru City Council (MBJB) mayor Datuk A. Rahim Nin who represented Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Khaled Nordin to declare the event open said going green is a global issue and everyone should play a part in embracing the green concept as it was everyone’s responsibility to protect the earth for the future generation.

Rahim, who read Khaled’s speech, said that the state government is committed to building and delivering its target of 600,000 affordable homes for the people under the Rumah Mampu Milik Johor scheme by 2020 in tandem with the development of Johor.

“Team Johor means everyone is a team player in the development of the state,” Rahim added.
