No trouble: Chong Wei cruises into All England 2nd round

KUALA LUMPUR: World No 1 Lee Chong Wei showed no signs of slowing down when he checked into the second round of the All England in style on Wednesday.

Playing in his first major tournament since the World Super Series Finals last year, the 35-year-old easily saw off France's Brice Leverdez 21-15, 21-12 in just 35 minutes at the Barclaycard Arena in Birmingham.

The top seeded Malaysian plays Taiwan's Wang Tzu Wei today for a place in the quarter-finals.

In the men's doubles, world No 1 Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong registered a 21-15, 21-18 win over Japan's Takuro Hoki-Yugo Kobayashi in the opening round and will face China's Liu Xiaolong-Xu Chen next.

Rio Olympic Games silver medallist in mixed doubles, Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying also cleared their first hurdle with a 21-16, 21-19 win over Sweden's Nico Ruponen-Amanda Hogstrom and are up against China's Zhang Nan-Li Yinhui later today.

In the women's doubles, national No 1 Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei clawed back from a game down to send Thailand's Puttita Supajirakul-Sapsiree Taerattanachai packing with a 18-21, 21-11, 21-17 win.

Vivian-Khe Wei take on third seeds Jung Kyung Eun-Shin Seung Chan of South Korea next.
