Johari denies CCM-registered Malaysians not eligible for BR1M

KUALA LUMPUR: Second Finance Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani has denied claims on social media that Malaysians registered with the Companies Commission of Malaysia are not ineligible for the 1Malaysia People's Aid (BR1M).

He also reiterated that all Malaysians with household incomes of less than RM4,000 and single incomes of less than RM2,000 were eligible for the cash aid.

"It does not matter if applicants are registered with SSM. In fact, we encourage low-income earners to run their own businesses and become entrepreneurs.

"As long as you're earning a household income of less than RM4,000, you will be eligible for BR1M," he told reporters at the Parliament lobby here yesterday.

He also told the public that there was no need for them to erase their names from the SSM registry in order to receive BR1M.

Johari said a total of 705,562 people were eligible for BR1M, and that the monies would be disbursed to them soon.

He also said some 600,000 people had their applications rejected after it was discovered that they were earning monthly household incomes of more than RM4,000.
