M'sian embassy staff Nirmala has yet to call home

KUALA KANGSAR: The family of S. Nirmala Malar Kodi who is stranded in North Korea has been waiting anxiously for her to call.

Nirmala had promised to contact them today but she has yet to do so.

Sister, S. Komala Theinmoli said Nirmala had told their eldest sister, Janaga Malar Vili, that she would call again today.

“However until now, she (Nirmala) has failed to do so. I am worried sick, but deep inside, I believe my sister is doing fine there.

“I hope nothing has happened to her. She is not a person who breaks promises. If she says that she will call or send a message at 2pm or 3pm, she will do so,” Komala said when met at her home in Highland Park here today.

Komala added that the last time Nirmala had contacted the family was on Monday night.

“I hope all Malaysians can pray for my sister’s safety there as well as her friends. Please, I want to see her real soon,” she added.

When contacted at about 6pm, Janaga had confirmed that she has not received any calls or messages from Nirmala.

Nirmala, is one of 11 Malaysians who are still stranded in North Korea. Pyongyang on Monday barred Malaysians from leaving North Korea. The decision was made amidst diplomatic tension between the two countries following the murder of Kim Jong-nam at klia2 on Feb 13.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak however today revealed that two Malaysians with the United Nations’ World Food Programme, Stella Lim and Nyanaprakash Muniandy, were allowed to leave Pyongyang and have arrived in Beijing.
