Kedah's treble dreams still alive after 2-0 win over Perak

KUALA LUMPUR: Kedah kept alive the possibility of a treble this season after beating Perak 2-0 on Saturday to join defending champions Johor Darul Ta'zim in the FA Cup quarter-finals.

Fellow Super League sides Pahang and Sarawak also won their third round matches to advance to the last-eight where they will enter Sunday's draw alongside four teams from the Premier League.

Perak State Economic Development Corporation, who saw off fellow Premier League team Kuantan 5-4 in a thrilling match on Friday, Sabah, Negri Sembilan and Terengganu will all get a chance to mix it with the big boys in the quarter-finals.

Malaysia Cup holders and Super League leaders Kedah last achieved a treble in 2008 but stayed on course for a repeat after Zachary Anderson and Ken Ilso scored before half-time against Perak in Ipoh and remain undefeated in 21 matches.

In a match which saw several rough challenges, Perak's Yashir Pinto was lucky not to be sent off after stamping on the back of Kedah's Liridon Krasniqi and shown just the yellow card.

However, Perak did end the game with 10 men after left-back Nazirul Naim Che Hashim was rushed to hospital with a serious injury as the home team saw out the remaining 10 minutes a man short having made all three of their substitutions.

Gonzalo Cabrera scored twice as Darul Ta'zim easily accounted for second-tier Universiti Teknologi Mara 4-0 at Larkin with Ahmad Hazwan Bakri and Fadhli Shas also getting among the goals.

An early penalty by Heo Jae-won and a late strike by Nor Azam Azih was enough for Pahang to see off Malacca 2-0 in Kuantan while two goals from Rahman Shah Marajeh saw Sabah recover from a 1-2 deficit to oust third-tier side Ministry of Finance 4-2 in Kota Kinabalu.

Both Negri and Terengganu had to go to extra-time to upset Super League opponents in Penang and Kuala Terengganu T-Team respectively.

Lee Tuck scored a hat-trick in the second half of extra-time as Premier League leaders Negri overcame Super League bottom side Penang 4-1 at Paroi.

Terengganu's Lutfulla Turaev scored in the last minute of the game to edge T-Team in the state derby, which saw both sides having a player sent off.

In the early kick-off, Sarawak banked on first half goals by Abdul Razak Abdul Rahim and Mark Hartmann to stem a fight-back by Perlis, who replied through Oh Kyu-bin, to win 2-1 in Kangar.
