Damaged road needs urgent repairs

Business operators and residents of Taman Suria in Penampang, Sabah, are hoping that a road that was damaged during drainage work could be repaired immediately.

The road sank after the Sabah Drainage and Irrigation Department began drainage work in the area.

A businessman, who wants to be known only as Robert, said the damaged road affected his business as people avoided the dangerous site.

“I prefer to run my business here as it is near my house. Now, I have no choice but to close it.”

Another resident, Rahimah Sudin, was concerned about the safety of her children as they tend to play near the road.

“The road looks unstable and someone could get injured. My other concern is whether the adjacent road is safe for motorists to use.”

ACTIONLINE

Penampang District Council officer Luvita Koisun said the remedial work had begun and was expected to be completed by the end of this month.

“The project is progressing well. The authorities will monitor the work from time to time.”

Barriers had been erected at the work site to prevent people from entering the area.
