KULAI: A freak storm wreaked havoc in several areas in Kulai this evening, with uprooted trees falling on cars and other structural damages reported at a hospital, health clinic and several houses.

The storm began about 5pm and lasted for about an hour. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

Bandar Baru Kulai Fire and Rescue station chief Soleh Nasir said they received complaints of uprooted trees falling on cars in Bandar Putra Kulai and some areas in Jalan Besar.

The ceiling of a ward at the Temenggong Seri Maharaja Tun Ibrahim Hospital collapsed, and several patients were relocated to another ward.

Johor Health and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Ayub Rahmat said the ceiling at the entrance and other parts of the Kulai Health Clinic also caved in. The clinic's pharmacy was flooded and the medicine supply were subsequently transferred to other parts of the clinic.

Nur Syazana Shasha Kayosha, who was driving to Bandar Putra Kulai, said she saw a large tree fall onto a car in front of her.

"Luckily, no one was injured in the incident. The occupants of the car ahead escaped serious injury.”

Firefighters were deployed to several areas to help with the emergency situation.
