Act 355 is not a "backdoor" to introduce hudud, says BN MP

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz (BN-Tanah Merah) today appealed to other political parties to stop politicising the proposed amendment to the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 to empower the Shariah Courts.

“There are parties that (claim) the proposed amendment is a backdoor to introduce hudud. This has nothing to do with hudud-related offences,” Ikmal said, adding that he strongly supports the amendment, also known as Act 355.

He said Act 355 would strengthen Islamic courts in dealing with criminal cases.

“It has been explained many times that non-Muslims cannot be punished under Shariah. So, irrelevant parties need to stop (making) anti-Islam (allegations),” he said.

Ikmal stressed that the matter should be left in the hands of Muslims and that other parties had no reason to worry over it.
