Top 30 in world for hospitality

FOR the first time ever, a local private university has been ranked by subject among the top universities worldwide by the rankings data provider Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

In the 2017 QS World University Rankings By Subject, Taylor’s University placed 29th in the world for Hospitality & Leisure Management.

This recognition means that the university is positioned as number one in Malaysia and top 30 in the world for that course.

Taylor’s University vice-chancellor and president Professor Michael Driscoll, was expectedly elated with this accolade, saying that it further solidified Taylor’s strong standing in this area.

“As Taylor’s moves to the next chapter towards balanced excellence, this accomplishment provides us with a stronger foundation as we continue to attract the best talents,

collaborate with the best partners globally and produce the best graduates who make a difference in their communities, wherever they are in the world,” he said.

“This international recognition reflects our perseverance and dedication to provide the highest of quality undergraduate teaching and learning, and a testament of our outstanding academic reputation, employer reputation and our research capability in this particular field.”

In addition to the recognition for hospitality and tourism management subjects, Taylor’s is also the only private university in Malaysia to receive recognition for the subject of Art & Design, making it to top 200 in the world and top two placing in Malaysia, alongside Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

“These accomplishments signal that the quality of the teaching and learning approach available for students at Taylor’s University is on par with some of the best universities from around the world,” added Driscoll.

“It is the latest recognition awarded to Taylor’s by QS; the last being Taylor’s listed as number 179 in Asia in the QS Asia Ranking 2016 and receiving five-star rating in five categories of the QS Stars Rating 2016.

“Taylor’s was awarded an overall rating of four Stars in the same exercise. Taylor’s was also the first and only university to be awarded the Tier 6: Outstanding rating in the D-SETARA rating by the Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia.

“These achievements will spur us on to keep improving our teaching and learning excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We have mapped out a new strategic plan to propel us towards becoming a top university of global standing.”
