SPM 2016: 707 Perak candidates score straight As, down from 2015

IPOH: A total of 707 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) candidates out of 32,509 students who sat for the exam in Perak scored straight As.

Perak Education Department director Mat Lazim Idris said the results, however, showed a slight decline compared to the 890 straight-A students in 2015.

“The State Average Grade (GPN) for 2016 is 5.17, compared to 5.22 in 2015; an increase of 0.05 points,” he said during a press conference at Bilik Seri Budi, Perak Education Department, here today.

He said a large number of candidates who obtained excellent results last year consisted of those who sat for nine or 10 subjects.

“They comprise 275 candidates who took nine subjects, 306 (10 subjects), 109 (11 subjects) and 12 (12 subjects).”

He said the performance of candidates in rural areas declined by 0.01 GPN points, compared to 0.03 in 2015.

“However there was an improvement of 0.11 GPN points for urban candidates, with 5.08 points last year, compared to 5.19 points in 2015,” Mat Lazim said.
