(Shooting) "Shooting star" Muslifah Zulkifli stuns detractors, grabs gold at Tun Hanif Trophy

SUBANG: Podium Programme dropout Muslifah Zulkifli of Armed Forces silenced her critics by winning the women's 50m rifle prone event in the Tun Hanif Trophy Championships at Subang Shooting Range today.

The Incheon Asian Games bronze medallist posted a 592 series to win the gold medal, three points ahead of silver medallist, Nur Aimi Hanis Abd Halim of Pahang.

Forces' Haslisa Hamid took third spot with a 581 total, followed by Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi, on 575.

"I am delighted to win the gold medal ahead of my rivals," said Muslifah.

"I hardly trained after I was dropped from the Podium Programme, so the win today is a huge motivation for me in my hope of representing the country at the Kuala Lumpur Sea Games on Aug 19-31."

Muslifah was also the only Podium Programme discard not included in the 'Kita Juara' Kuala Lumpur Sea Games programme.

The Penang-born shooter hopes to make an impression in competitions for a spot in the Sea Games squad.
