Conman dupes Kangar traders with fake RM100 notes

KANGAR: A hardware trader was tricked by a smartly-dressed man who used a fake RM100 to make a purchase at his shop recently.

The trader who wished to be identified only as Tan said in the 11am incident on Monday, he was attending to several customers when the man walked into his shop.

“The man used a RM100 note to pay for a few items worth RM41 and I duly return the RM59 balance to him,” he said when met today.

Tan only realised that the note was fake after a friend came to exchange two RM50 notes with a RM100 note.

“I had a shock when the friend told me that it was a fake note.

“Only then I noticed that it was indeed a fake note as the quality of the paper is way poorer compared to the genuine note,” he said.

Tan said he later found out that several other traders in the area had also been duped by the same man.

Kangar police chief Superintendent Wari Kiew confirmed the incident and said that the case was being investigated by the district Commercial Criminal Investigation Department.
