KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysia Moto3 wildcard rider, Muhammad Farid Badrul Hisam sprung back from his horrible start in the 2017 Pirelli Malaysia Superbike Championship (MSBK) yesterday to win race two at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) on Sunday.
Farid of HKM Times Bike Racing Team, who failed to finish race one a day before, survived a strong challenge from Jouni Karhu to win the 24-lap contest around SIC's 2,609-meter south track in 25:34.918s to deny the Finnish a double victory.
Despite today's loss, Karhu, who rides for Team Chia PJ Kawasaki sits comfortably at the top of the championship standings with 45-points.
Karhu's teammate Rajini Krishnan is second overall with 36-points after finishing taking third place in race two and adding 16 championship points yesterday.
The Indian rider finished second on Saturday's race one to collect 20-points.
Third in Saturday's opening race, Jonathan Serrapica turned the tables on Malaysian Nasaruddin Yusoff and Scotland's Keith Parrot when the Swiss rider won race two despite a strong challenge from his Malaysian and Scottish rivals.
Serrapica secured victory in 26:10.007s on his Yamaha R1 machine while race one winner Nasarudin Mat Yusop taking second place and Parrot in third.
Former Moto2 rider Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, who has a DNF for race one on Saturday, emerged as victor of the Supersport Championship with Ismael Smalji in second and Quzaimy Azhar in third.
It was a similar story in the Supersport Championship when former Moto2 rider Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, who has a DNF for Race 1 yesterday, scored a sensational victory to totally outclass his rivals.
Round two of the MSBK will be run on a full circuit from April 28 to 30.
