Yee Jun and Pearly reach MSSM quarter-finals despite split

KUALA LUMPUR: Despite playing with a scratch partner, Perlis' Chang Yee Jun still did well to reach the mixed doubles quarter-final of the Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) badminton meet on Tuesday.

Yee Jun and his regular partner at the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS) Pearly Tan, had to be split as they represented different states.

That, however, proved not to be an issue for Yee Jun-Nurizuwani Redzuan who saw off Sabah's Ling Dai Hau-Fong Yii Zii 21-17, 21-18 in the second round at the KL Badminton Stadium in Cheras.

Yee Jun-Nurizuwani will play Selangor's Shaun Wong-Ng Wan Win next for a place in the semi-finals which will also be played on Wednesday.

Prior to the MSSM, Yee Jun-Pearly clinched the German Junior title, making them favourites to represent Malaysia at the Asian Junior Championships (Jakarta) in July at the World Junior Championships (Jogjakarta) in October.

Pearly, who hails from Kedah, also did well to reach the last eight stage, but in the girls' doubles event with her partner Eng Sin Jou.

The duo who received a first round bye, beat Sabah's Glovia Moijing-Petricia Eleng Samin 21-13, 21-15 in the second round on Tuesday and will play Malacca's Ceyln Tan-Loo Cheng Yee next for a place in the last four.
