Illegal parking causes snarl

People who illegally park their vehicles in a street next to the Kota Kinabalu City Hall building here are causing traffic congestion, a motorist claimed.

The motorist, who identified himself as Peter, said Lintasan Deasoka was a busy stretch and the indiscriminate parking on the side of the road made things worse.

“It affects traffic flow from Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens to Jalan Pantai, especially during peak hours.

“Motorists propbably park in the area to settle matters at City Hall. There are not enough parking bays. City Hall should monitor the stretch or take action.”

Peter also claimed that City Hall vehicles also park on the stretch.

Actionline

City Hall Complaints and Public Relations Department director Syron Tunggolou said enforcement officers conduct regular patrols across the city, including inLintasan Deasoka.

“We will issue compounds if we find vehicles parked illegally. If the drivers are around, we will ask them to move their vehicles,” she said, adding that City Hall would pay extra attention to busy stretches.

She said there had been no reports of City Hall vehicles parked in the area, but added that action would be taken if staff were found to have violated the law.
