Yap (BN-Tawau) said the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013-2025 (MEB) would improve the quality of public universities which can further improve the universities’ rankings globally.

She had mentioned according to a recent Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings 2017, four public universities had made it into the list with Universiti Malaya (UM) leading at the 59th spot, followed by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and Universiti Putra Malaysia in the 121 to 130 band, and Universiti Sains Malaysia (141-150).

“THE commented that we have great potential. Public universities in the country have the potential to achieve a better position than it is today, on the world stage,” she told the Dewan Rakyat today.

She was replying to the supplementary questions by Nga Kor Ming (DAP-Taiping) who questioned the declining credibility of public universities and why the universities here were not considered as one of the best universities in Southeast Asia.
