Three men detained for illegal possession of wild boar carcasses

BESUT: State Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) enforcement officers have detained three men for the illegal possession of wild boar carcasses at a house in Kampung Tok Has, Jertih here today.

Its director Rahmah Elias said the team raided the house following a tip-off and seized 26 hunks of wild boar carcasses believed to be worth about RM35,000 in the 10.30am incident.

It was understood that more than 30 carcasses were retrieved in the case.

She said the suspects aged between 21 and 30, from Machang, Kelantan, were taken to the Kampung Raja police station for further questioning.

However, they were released on police bail the same day.

“The carcasses were believed to have been bought from illegal hunters in the district,” she said.

“The trio were washing the carcasses when the raiding party ambushed the house this morning,” she said.

The case is being investigated under Section 60 of the Wildlife Protection Act 2010 (716 Act) for possessing protected wildlife without licence.

If convicted, the suspects could face up to three years’ imprisonment and a fine of not more than RM50,000 or both.
