Final day of National Higher Education Carnival 2017 to attract droves

NILAI: Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim) is expecting a high number of visitors, particularly from Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, at its campus today for the closing ceremony of the 2017 National Higher Education Carnival.

Jointly organized by the university and the Ministry of Higher Education (MoHE), Usim has played host to the Central Zone’s carnival since Feb.

Some 150 exhibitors took part in the carnival, providing necessary services and information for school leavers who had just received their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) results, as well as diploma holders wishing to pursue further studies.

The Carnival was also an opportunity for parents to engage and interact with representatives from public institutions of higher learning, private colleges, polytechnics and vocational training institutes, for a better understanding of what they have to offer.

“The National Higher Education Carnival is a ‘one stop centre’ for the latest and updated information on studies at higher levels.

“At the same time, it is a golden opportunity for school leavers and students to interact directly with representatives from an assortment of academic institutions on specific courses and relevant programmes, scholarship sponsors and enrolment prerequisites,” said Usim head of academic management, Hammad Farhi Mohd Saudi.

A variety of events and interesting programmes was organised, including an education exhibition which allowed school leavers and students to assess specific information on courses offered by different institutions of higher learning, and whether they qualify for enrolment based on their exam results.

A seminar on student enrolment, courses offered, sponsorship bodies as well as post-graduation career opportunities was also held to provide prospective students with exposure to counsellors and school teachers who advised students on their undergraduate ambitions.

Other programmes in the line-up were exhibitions on research and uniformed bodies, as well as sporting activities like archery, lawn bowling, petanque and seven-a-side football.

Visitors at today’s closing event can frequent the variety of stalls and food trucks on site, and watch performances by the Usim student cultural group, Usim Buskers and popular artists like Siti Nordiana and Caliph Buskers; or take part in a children meet-and-greet session with Didi & Friends.
