Selangor crime index plunges by 30.85 per cent: Police Chief

SHAH ALAM: The crime index in Selangor dropped by 30.85 per cent, or 2,608 cases to 5,847 criminal cases for the period from Jan 1 until Thursday (March 23), said Selangor Police Chief Datuk Abdul Samah Mat.

For the corresponding period last year, he said there were 8,455 cases.

Abdul Samah said the number of violent crimes dropped by 409 cases to 1,341 cases in the first three months of this year, compared with 1,750 cases during the corresponding period of last year.

"The crime rate involving property also dropped by 2,199 cases from 6,705 to 4,506 cases, up to March 23," he said at a media conference after attending the 210th Police Day at the Selangor Contingent Police Headquarters level here today.

Abdul Samah said the police also succeeded in resolving high-profile cases by 47.68 per cent from Jan 1 up to March 23, following the emphasis given to quality investigation. -- BERNAMA
