Pest menace at flat

Tong Lee Mansion Flat residents in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, have a pest problem.

Chelvy, a resident, said the garbage bin at the back lane of her apartment was swarming with pests.

“A home is where one relaxes and unwinds, but that is not the case for me and my family.

“Because of the foul smell of the garbage bin, flies and rats have made the bin their home. Some come into my house.”

Chelvy said the bin was placed there a few years ago for residents to throw their rubbish.

“The bin is so near my house that I cannot live in peace.”

ACTIONLINE

A SWCorp Malaysia officer told Actionline that the garbage bin had been moved.

“The 660-litre garbage bin has been moved away from the complainant’s house.

“However, it cannot be moved far because that location is where residents throw their rubbish.”

The officer said as the agency tasked with managing solid waste and public cleanliness, SWCorp Malaysia cleared the garbage bin daily.

“Previously, residents used the garbage chute system, but upon their request, we provided the garbage bin.”
