PPBM's desire to be main party in Pakatan proof of Opposition disarray

ALOR STAR: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (PPBM) suggestion that it be made the 'anchor party' in Pakatan Harapan is yet another sign of disunity within the recently-formed opposition pact.

Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah said this was further proven by PKR deputy president Datuk Seri Azmin Ali’s statement that the party was facing difficulty in convincing Opposition parties to avoid multi-cornered fights with Barisan Nasional in the coming general election.

“It clearly shows that the pact is weak with many unresolved issues, yet he (Azmin) dares to come here (Kedah) and say a change of Menteri Besar would contribute towards stronger support for Pakatan Harapan?

“He should take care of his own house (Selangor). Isn’t he is a replacement for Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (Azmin's predecessor)?” he said.

Bashah was commenting on a statement made by Azmin that the Menteri Besar crisis in Kedah would rouse support for the Opposition camp.

Ahmad Bashah was met after opening an exhibition on Islamic Civilisation: Prophet Muhammad and his Companions' Artifacts at the State Museum, here today.

The month-long exhibition began on March 20 and will end on April 19.

Ahmad Bashah said he is confident that DAP will not allow PPBM to become the anchor party as the former holds more seats.

PPBM president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, in his speech at a rally in Padang Rengas, Perak recently, reportedly suggested that the party, as a Malay-based political party, should be allowed to take charge of Pakatan's struggle to boost the coalition's appeal among the rakyat.

Azmin, after opening the Kedah/Perlis PKR Convention yesterday, played down PPBM'ssuggestion, while reiterating that all parties in Pakatan Harapan are bound to uphold the coalition’s common framework and policy.
