Two busted by police for possession of RM90,000 in cannabis

KUALA LUMPUR: In a bid to evade detection by law enforcers, a drug trafficker found out that the most obvious place to hide his stash was really, just too obvious.

Believing that his car boot will be a safe spot turned out to be a bad idea when the man got arrested by the police last week.

Cheras district police chief Assistant Commissioner Chong Kok Sing said police had arrested two men and seized 27kg cannabis worth an estimated RM90,000 from two locations, including the car boot, last week.

The 47-year-old man, believed by police to be a drug trafficker was caught after another suspect let the cat out of the bag.

In the first arrest, a 25-year-old man was nabbed after a patrol team spotted him acting suspiciously near Taman Barat Mutiara at 2am on Tuesday.

“The patrol team approached him and found 1kg of cannabis in his bag.

“He then led the team to the Sungai Besi LRT station on the same day at 6pm, where we made the second arrest,” he said.

Police found 5kg of cannabis on the said drug trafficker, adding that they also discovered another 21kg of cannabis in a car boot, which they believe is the second man’s portable store. The car was parked at Desa Tasik Apartment.

“The drugs were wrapped in a transparent plastic bag and is believed to have been sold at RM3,000 per kilogramme around Klang Valley,” he said.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 39(B) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, adding the two men have been remanded until Thursday for investigations.
