Health Ministry looking at RM600mil to upgrade hospitals' wiring systems

SEGAMAT: The Health Ministry needs RM600 million to upgrade the wiring systems of hospitals between 30 and 50 years old said minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam today.

He said a safety audit conducted on wiring systems at all government hospitals found that there is a need to upgrade the wiring systems at certain hospitals for the safety of patients and staff.

Subramaniam added that among the hospitals which required an upgrade included the Segamat Hospital, where a small fire took place at one of its linen room in Ward 3 yesterday.

“As for now, we have yet to identify how many hospitals need to undergo upgrades for its wiring systems.

“Some hospitals need minimal wiring upgradeing works, while there are other hospitals that need an overall upgrade of the wiring systems,” he said after visiting the Segamat Hospital.

He added that the ministry has since requested for additional allocation for upgrading works at hospitals.
