KUALA LUMPUR: Two of Malaysia's top pairs, Goh V Shem-Tan Wee Kiong and Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying, lived up to their billing when they marched into the quarter-finals of the India Open in New Delhi on Thursday.
V Shem-Wee Kiong, the former men's doubles world No 1, scored a comfortable 21-10, 21-17 win over the mixed combination of Indonesia's Hendra Setiawan and Malaysia's Tan Boon Heong in the second round at the Siri Fort Indoor Stadium.
The 2016 Rio Olympic Games silver medallists will square off against fifth seeds Li Junhui-Liu Yuchen of China next, for a place in the last four.
In the mixed doubles, Peng Soon-Liu Ying booked a date with South Korea's Kim Gi Jung-Shin Seung Chan, following their 21-11, 21-19 second round win over Indonesia's Edi Subaktiar-Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja.
Peng Soon, when contacted said: "It will all boil down to who plays the better game on court.
"If we can focus more on our performance rather than the result, then the game is ours.
"Communication is the other important key to success. Hopefully, we get to do well again."
Earlier this month, the national No 1 pair came agonisingly close to clinching their maiden Premier crown on the Super Series circuit at the All England, but fell short to China's Lu Kai-Huang.
