(Badminton) Peng Soon-Liu Ying sacrifice India Open for Malaysia Open

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s hopes at the India Open came to a disappointing end when Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying conceded a walkover in the semi-finals on Saturday.

The last-minute decision to forfeit the match against top seeds Zheng Siwei-Chen Qingchen of China came after Liu Ying fell sick in New Delhi.

The Malaysian mixed-doubles pair, who missed out on the opportunity to win the All England last month, agreed that it was better to recover with rest ahead of the Malaysia Open in Kuching this week.

"I don't feel too well, kept coughing, and there was this bad headache," said Liu Ying when contacted.

"I hope to recover in time for the Malaysia Open, so it's best I get rest."

Siwei-Qingchen will play their teammates, Lu Kai-Huang Yaqiong in the final on Sunday.

The second-seeded China duo had earlier seen off English husband-and-wife Chris and Gabrielle Adcock 21-13, 21-13 in the semi-finals.
