Man on way to buy breakfast for family killed in crash near Kemasek

KEMAMAN: Police said a 37-year-old motorcyclist, who was on his way to buy breakfast for his family, was killed in an accident with a pick-up truck near Kampung Baru, Kemasek, yesterday morning.

In the 8am incident, the victim, Nazri Muhammad, a fisherman from Kampung Pantai, Kemasek, died on the spot after sustaining serious head injuries.

District police chief Superintendant Mohd Said Ibrahim said Nazri was heading towards Kampung Baru when he crashed into the back of a Ford Ranger at KM121 of Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kuantan.

Checks showed Nazri had failed to avoid the vehicle which was stopping at a traffic light junction.

"The 22-year-old driver was unhurt. He was on the way to Kuala Terengganu from Kemaman," he said.

Mohd Said said Nazri's remains has been sent to the Kemaman Hospital for post mortem and the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, the victim's mother Zaiton Abdullah, 57, said she was in a state of disbelief when told about the accident.

"He was the eldest of nine siblings. Despite having fever, he still went out to buy breakfast for us." she said.

Zaiton said Nazri's remains has been burried at the Kampung Kemasek Muslim cemetary the same day.
