KUALA LUMPUR: April 24 (Monday) has been declared a public holiday in conjunction with the inauguration of the 15th Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Muhammad V.
In a statement released today, Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Ali Hamsa, said two main events will be held on the day at Istana Negara.
"The installation of Sultan Muhammad V will take place at the Balairung Seri in the morning, while the royal dinner will be held at Dewan Santapan at night."
He said two other inauguration events will be held on Apr 20 and May 2.
"On Apr 20, a Yasin and ‘doa selamat’ recital, together with a ‘solat hajat’ will be held at Masjid Putra in Putrajaya; while on May 2, there will be a ‘Pameran Raja Kita’ exhibition at the Royal Museum (the former Istana Negara)," he said.
Ali added that the public holiday announcement was declared under Section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951 (Act 369) for peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan, while Sabah and Sarawak could take such action in accordance with their laws.
