After just 1 year, "Harimau Malaysia" reverts to "Harimau Malaya"

KUALA LUMPUR: The National football squad, known as “Harimau Malaysia” following a rebranding just a year ago, will revert to its old name, 'Harimau Malaya'.

Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) secretary-general Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin said the decision to revert to the old name follows a directive from newly-elected FAM president, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim.

"The change in name is in line with a request from fans who want to remain steadfast to history, because the National team was known as 'Harimau Malaya' in the old days.

"We hope the change in name will be the beginning of a new era for football in the country," Tunku Ismail said in an official entry of the FAM Facebook page today. -- Bernama
