HR Ministry determining "reasonable" starting salaries for M'sian workers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Human Resources Ministry told Parliament today that a comprehensive document on “reasonable” starting salaries for workers is expected to be ready in six months.

Its Minister, Datuk Seri Richard Riot, said a study is underway on the matter.

"The study will delve into starting salaries (suitable) for every employment sector and district.

"We hope to complete the study (soon) and the findings (will be) documented in six months," he said in reply to a supplementary question from Hee Loy Sian (PKR- Petaling Jaya Selatan).

Hee had earlier claimed that the starting salary of fresh graduates is RM2,000 this year, which is only slightly higher than what it was 20 years ago (RM1,800). He asked how the ministry planned to rectify the situation.
