3 schools reopen in flood-hit Sabah interior, 2 remain inundated

BELURAN: Only two primary schools here remain closed due to flooding today – down from the five shut down yesterday in this district and in Pitas.

State Education Director Datuk Maimunah Suhaibul said the school compounds of SK Binsulung and SK Bawang are still inundated, thus forcing the shutdown which is affecting 404 pupils and 28 teachers.

Besides SK Bawang, the schools closed yesterday were SK Simpangan and SK Kabuluh here, as well as SK Sosop and SK Kusilad in Pitas, affecting 930 pupils and 89 teachers.

State Meteorology Department director Azemi Daud said that the wet weather is expected to improve starting this weekend, although some places in the interior and the west coast of Sabah will still experience rain.
