Malaysian medical grads from Indonesian, Russian, Egypt unis have problems during housemanship

KUALA LUMPUR: Most Malaysian trainee doctors who graduated from several foreign universities have proven to be incapable of passing their housemanship at hospitals back home, the Parliament was told today.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Hilmi Yahaya said they were identified to be graduates of medical schools in Indonesia, Russia and Egypt.

"Our graduates from Indonesia have a problem understanding medical terminology used in Malaysia as they learnt different terms during their studies," he said in reply to Dr Mohd Hatta Md Ramli (PAN-Kuala Krai)

Dr Hilmi said Malaysian graduates from Egypt and Russia had problems in their duties during housemanship as they were not trained to handle actual patients during their studies.

"All these contribute to their stress in adapting to hospital work, and caused some to under-perform and even drop out from housemanship," he said.
