Pas sets sights on winning 80 seats in GE14: Party VP

CYBERJAYA: Pas targets winning no less than 80 seats in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14) and does not dismiss the idea of fielding candidates in DAP and PKR constituencies.

Speaking to reporters today, Pas vice-president Idris Ahmad said party members have presented a range of proposals, including new seats to be contested for GE14, to the party’s top leadership.

"Proposals have been submitted, and now it’s up to the party's top leadership to decide," he said after the launching the Federal Territories Muktamar Dewan Pemuda Pas here.

He said for the Federal Territories, the party targets wresting seven constituencies, namely Titiwangsa, Putrajaya, Labuan, Bandar Tun Razak, Wangsa Maju, Setiawangsa and Lembah Pantai.

The districts of Segambut and Batu, meanwhile, are still being considered, Idris added.

Also present at the event were Federal Territories Pas commissioner, Mohd Nor Mohamad, and Federal Territories Pas Youth chief, Khairil Nizam Khirudin.

When asked about the Private Member's Bill, tabled by party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang in Parliament this week – and which has received negative feedback from several quarters – Idris said politicians and community leaders understand Act 355, but failed to disseminate the information to their people.

"This Act doesn't involve non-Muslims, just like fasting during Ramadhan, which only involves Muslims.

"Pas tabled Act 355 based on facts and not emotions. If anybody is opposed to it, their attitude is flawed," he added.
