PKR's Adam Rosly charged with providing forged documents, false statements

KUALA LUMPUR: PKR Ampang Youth chief Datuk Adam Rosly was charged with six counts of providing authorities with forged documents and false statements.

The 28-year-old businessman pleaded not guilty when the charges were read before Judge Allaudeen Ismail at the Sessions Court here today.

Adam, clad in an orange Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) lockup attire, arrived about 9am.

The 28-year-old smiled for the cameras as he was ushered into the courtroom by MACC officers.

He was charged with providing forged documents and false statements when he was interviewed by MACC officers over investigations of his wealth on Feb 10 and Feb 22 this year.

The offences fall under Section 32(8)(c) and Section 89 of the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001, for providing false documents and statements.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib, who prosecuted, asked for no bail to be offered to the accused as the offence is a non-bailable one.

"However, if the court wants to offer bail, if should not be less than RM400,000 with one surety," he said.

However, Adam's lawyer Ahmad Zaidi Zainal pleaded for a lower bail as his client did not have a stable income.

The court set bail at RM300,000 with one surety and ordered Adam to surrender his passport.

Several people, believed to be his family members and supporters, had been present at the court public gallery since 8.30am.

Ampang Member of Parliament Zuraida Kamaruddin was also present.
